Youth Recreational Rowing

Youth Recreational Rowing

At the Austin Rowing Club, we are committed to the development of boys and girls in the sport of rowing. Our Youth Recreational Rowing programs offer great opportunities for kids to learn how to row, continue the development of their rowing and athletic skills, and experience this amazing sport in a less time consuming and demanding way than a competitive program.

In the process of learning the sport, kids will develop their group communication skills, as well as learn assertiveness and confidence. These programs are a great place to bring or make new friends.

Spring Recreational Rowing

Introduction to Rowing

ARC’s Junior Recreational Program is hosting a special 4 week introductory rowing session this May, that will focus on field trips on Lady Bird Lake. The session is open to ages 9-16 from complete beginner to advanced beginners.

Each class, rowers will work together as a team to learn how to row together towards a destination on Town Lake, where they’ll learn more about the wildlife and landmarks that dot the lake’s shores, and along the way they’ll learn the basics of rowing. This session emphasizes self-sufficiency, communication, and assertiveness skills while working together to reach a destination, all in a relaxed environment.
All rowers must be able to attend a swim test in the evening on Tuesday, April 19 and pass the swim test to officially register. To pass the swim test, rowers must wear shorts and a t-shirt and tread water for 5 minutes without going underwater and swim 50 yards continuous freestyle or breast stoke.
