Austin Rowing Club is a non-profit located in the heart of downtown Austin on beautiful Lady Bird Lake. The boathouse serves more than 500 community members and provides programming to children, veterans, low-income residents and those with health complications. In addition, it is home to masters, junior and youth rowing programs from introductory clinics to high level competitive teams. For those wanting to enjoy the lake through other recreation, Austin Rowing Club offers kayak and stand up paddle board rentals.

Rentals

Dock Assistant
Primarily helps with dock operations, including but not limited to:
● Assisting guests launch and return on the dock
● Providing paddling and safety instruction
● Informing guests of lake rules, water hazards, and weather conditions
● Ensuring guests are launched with properly fitting life vests
● Enforcing rules and safety protocol
● Communicating with coworkers and helping with group tasks
● Caring for, maintaining, and organizing ARC equipment
Pay rate: $15/hour + Tips
Rental Assistant
Primarily handles both desk and dock operations, including but not limited to:
● Point of sale system
● Checking guests in/out, assisting guests for launches and returns, providing safety and
paddling instruction, answering guest inquiries in person and via phone
● Preparing the dock with kayaks and paddleboards
● Caring for, maintaining, and organizing ARC equipment
● Monitoring weather conditions
● Managing shift tasks and staff communications
● Assisting in opening and closing procedures
● General communications, creative problem solving and troubleshooting
Pay rate: $16/hour + Tips
Tour Guide
Guides are responsible for leading fun and informative tours, while also keeping guests safe and comfortable. Other responsibilities include:
● Preparing boats for tours and helping guests into and out of boats
● Providing in depth paddling and safety instruction
● Monitoring weather conditions and adjusting tours as needed
● Performing rescues of persons and equipment and facilitating evacuation when needed

Rowing Coaching

Masters Racing Team Assistant Coach

About The Masters Racing Team at ARC:

The Masters Racing Team at Austin Rowing Club is a competitive racing team composed of approximately 60 men and women ages 21 and up. Masters Racing Team athletes are experienced rowers (many with college racing experience) who strive to race competitively at national and international regattas. Athletes train together year-round and compete in open and master’s events at regattas in the summer and fall. The Masters Racing Team has is searching for two assistant coaches.

Position Summary:

These are assistant coaching positions in Austin, Texas. Current on-the-water practice times are M, T, W, TH from 5:45-7:30am and Saturday 6:15-9:00am. Each assistant coach will commit approximately 10-15 hrs. per week. The hourly rate will be commensurate with experience. ARC is searching for committed coaches with a passion for growing a competitive masters racing team.

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

– On water coaching

– Leading on land workouts

– Setting boat lineups for practice

– Technical video review, weekly

– Facilitating successful team performance at competitions

– Collaborating with other ARC coaches on boat and launch availability

– Executing on a vision for the MRT that supports excellence in every aspect of sport and life

– Basic rigging and boatman duties (may include boat shell repair if experience allows)

Qualifications:

One-year previous coaching experience required; three years preferred.

– Previous collegiate or elite rowing experience as either a rower or coxswain

Excellent teaching, teamwork, and communication skills

– Ability to foster a diverse and inclusive team environment

– Ability to develop rowing technique and conditioning in athletes of varying ages, experience, and skills

– Ability to obtain Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid, SafeSport certification, and a Texas boating license

– USRowing Level 2 coaching certification, or willingness to obtain it, preferred

Prior to hiring, in accordance with USRowing policy, candidate must complete a nationwide criminal background check
