Austin Rowing Club is a non-profit located in the heart of downtown Austin on beautiful Lady Bird Lake. The boathouse serves more than 500 community members and provides programming to children, veterans, low-income residents and those with health complications. In addition, it is home to masters, junior and youth rowing programs from introductory clinics to high level competitive teams. For those wanting to enjoy the lake through other recreation, Austin Rowing Club offers kayak and stand up paddle board rentals.

Juniors Competitive Assistant Coaches
Austin Rowing Club’s Jr Competitive Program is looking for Assistant Coaches to join our team for Spring and Summer 2024.
-
Implement a safe, enjoyable, competitive learning environment for athletes, in a professional manner.
-
Lead and assists with practices following lesson plans in standard curriculum
- Provide technical rowing instruction and feedback to athletes in addition to athletic guidance.

Communicates with, and delegates effectively to other assistant coaches
-
Works with Head Coach to address rower/parent concerns promptly
-
Attends coaches training and meetings
-
Monitors boathouse, equipment, and dryland activities are in accordance with all ARC policies
-
Executing standard curriculums and lesson plans
-
Providing instruction through individual attention, specific feedback
-
Breaking down complex actions and ideas into small steps that people of variety of abilities and development can follow
-
Experience communicating in plain language to variety of stakeholders
-
Experience in negotiation or conflict resolution
-
Group facilitation of 5-20 people
-
Comfortable speaking in front of groups of 5-50
-
Able to show patience and composure in frenzied chaotic situations or when faced with defensiveness, silence, or inattention from others

Sharing ideas with and gaining buy-in from variety of audiences

Must be a strong swimmer that can pass a swim test in Austin’s Lady Bird Lake consisting of 50 yards continuous freestyle or breaststroke swim, 2 minutes legs only treading water, and surface dive.

Must have experience or be willing to be trained in driving a launch.

Must have experience or be willing to be trained in righting a capsized boat.

Must possess or be willing to acquire First Aid/CPR training

Must possess or be willing to acquire SafeSport certification

Must possess or be willing to acquire U.S. Rowing membership
-
Requirement for employment is a criminal background check.
